September Diary

On the 18th our first guests, Edwin and Brenda arrived in Hilltop Barn. Don’t know how many cleans it had to give our valued guests a good launch but Tina the Cleaner said that she had never ticked off so many boxes in the course of a morning’s work. At least she did not have to navigate around people’s feet and everything is fresh and new.

The two pioneers decided to join us round a campfire in the conservation area, where we were holding our training camp for expedition team members heading for Malawi in December.  Andrew tried out his new infra red automatic camera and managed to photograph both fox and badger together feeding in the conservation area overnight. We also located one of the biggest bracket fungi we had seen there, measuring some two feet across.

Michael, our son, who had been active in preparing Drakewell Dale Barn and helped to lay the ash planks on the master bedroom floor earlier in the month, left us a little short handed when he bumped into a television crew  and became press-ganged into taking part in a Channel 5 documentary . This will commemorate the taking of Arnhem Bridge in Holland in the War. It will be shown on November 11th in the evening. He did his first parachute jumps and has gained a certificate for his efforts.
